# FAQ

## What is Kotharo?

One Claude Code plugin that runs a ticket like a small team. Your main session acts as the dev manager: it sizes the work into a [lane](https://kotharo.com/docs/lanes-and-stops/), staffs [role agents](https://kotharo.com/docs/roles-and-tiers/) at the lowest tier that can do each job, and stops you only where the lane says to.

## Which version of Claude Code do I need?

Claude Code 2.1.295 or later, and Python 3.11 or later. [Install](https://kotharo.com/docs/install/) has the rest.

## Do I need Jira?

No. `/kotharo:setup` binds the ticketing tool your repo uses, such as GitHub issues, Jira or Linear. The [adapters](https://kotharo.com/docs/adapters/) page lists every tool Kotharo can work with. Without a ticket, give `/kotharo:team` a description of the work instead, and it drafts the ticket and creates it after your OK.

## Will it push, merge or deploy without asking?

Not the things that matter most. Merging into a long-lived branch, force-pushing, deploying to production, installing a dependency and changing a ticket ask every time, at every [autonomy level](https://kotharo.com/docs/autonomy-levels/). That list lives in code, and no setting can loosen it. [Security and privacy](https://kotharo.com/docs/security/#what-always-asks) has the full list.

## Does it send my code anywhere?

Kotharo has no server and sends no telemetry. The calls it makes go through tools you already have, such as `gh` and your MCP servers. [Security and privacy](https://kotharo.com/docs/security/#network-calls) lists each one.

## How much does it cost to run?

Kotharo is free to install. The role agents run on your Claude plan like any other Claude Code work, so a ticket costs what its agents use. Each role runs on the lowest model tier that can do it, and the plan stop shows the staffing before the build starts.

## Can I use it in only some repos?

Kotharo installs once and is on in every repo, but it only connects your tools in the repos where you run `/kotharo:setup`. To turn it off in one repo, add `"kotharo@kotharo": false` under `enabledPlugins` in that repo's `.claude/settings.local.json`.

## Does it work on Windows?

Yes, with Git for Windows installed, so hooks and skills run in Git Bash. See [Troubleshooting](https://kotharo.com/docs/troubleshooting/) if the rules don't load.

## How do I stop the team partway through a ticket?

Run `/kotharo:leave` with the ticket key. It clears the band and any stop card, and changes nothing on the branch, the pull request or the ticket. See [Work already under way](https://kotharo.com/docs/work-under-way/).

## Can the team pick up a ticket someone already started?

Yes. `/kotharo:join` reads the branch, the pull request and the ticket, tells you where it thinks the work stands, and asks before it does anything. See [Work already under way](https://kotharo.com/docs/work-under-way/).

## Where does it keep its notes?

In a worklog per branch under `~/.claude/sessions/`, and for a team run, in `docs/work/<KEY>/` in the repo. See [Worklogs and continuity](https://kotharo.com/docs/worklogs-and-continuity/).

## How do I change a setting for my whole team?

For one repo, set it with `/kotharo:config set <key> <value> --repo` and commit the file. For several repos, [write a team profile](https://kotharo.com/docs/team-profile/).

## How do I send feedback or ask for a feature?

Email kotharo@focovi.com. Bug reports, ideas and feature requests all go there, and so do security problems; [Security and privacy](https://kotharo.com/docs/security/) says what Kotharo touches.
