# Update and uninstall

## Update

`/kotharo:setup` turns on auto-update for the Kotharo marketplace. Claude Code then checks for updates in the background a few minutes into a session, and the new version applies the next time you restart Claude Code. Each release is a new version, listed in the [changelog](https://kotharo.com/changelog/).

To turn auto-update on or off yourself, open `/plugin`, go to **Marketplaces**, pick `kotharo` and choose **Enable auto-update** or **Disable auto-update**.

### Update by hand

If auto-update is off, or you want a release now, refresh the marketplace, then update the plugin, in a terminal:

```
claude plugin marketplace update kotharo
```

```
claude plugin update kotharo@kotharo
```

If your team has a profile, update it the same way with `claude plugin update`, then restart Claude Code. `claude plugin list` shows the version you have.

## Uninstall

Uninstall your team profile first, if you have one, then the core. `claude plugin list` shows which you have. For a team profile, add `--scope project` or `--scope local` if it was installed that way:

```
claude plugin uninstall kotharo-<team>@<team marketplace>
```

Then the core:

```
claude plugin uninstall kotharo@kotharo
```

Then the marketplace:

```
claude plugin marketplace remove kotharo
```

To turn Kotharo off without removing it, disable it instead:

```
claude plugin disable kotharo@kotharo
```

## What stays behind

Uninstalling leaves what Kotharo wrote, since some of it is your team's record of the work. Delete these by hand if you no longer want them:

- `~/.claude/sessions/<repo>/`: the branch worklogs (`<branch>.md`) and state files (`<branch>.state.md`).
- `~/.claude/sessions/_folders/`: a worklog for each folder you worked in outside any repo.
- `~/.claude/sessions/.precompact/`: the snapshots taken before Claude Code compacted a session.
- `~/.claude/kotharo.toml`: your own settings, if you set any.
- `~/.claude/kotharo/records/`: the team's close-out records, one per ticket.
- `~/.claude/kotharo/outbox/`: ticket changes queued while your ticketing tool was down, until `/kotharo:sync-tickets` sends them.
- `~/.claude/kotharo/flaky/`, `~/.claude/kotharo/evidence/`, `~/.claude/kotharo/learning/` and `~/.claude/kotharo/review-ledger.json`: the flaky tests found, the tools seen in use, the teaching mode log and the review count.
- `docs/work/<KEY>/` in each repo where the team kept records for a ticket.
- The `### Toolchain` section and other Kotharo notes in each repo's `CLAUDE.md`, the repo's `.claude/kotharo.toml` and `.claude/kotharo.local.toml`, and `kotharo-<team>@<marketplace>` entries in a repo's `.claude/settings.json` or `.claude/settings.local.json`.
- Rules `/kotharo:setup` added with your OK: the `autoUpdate` flag and the ticket band's lookup rule in `~/.claude/settings.json`, and the permissions block in a repo's `.claude/settings.json` and `.claude/settings.local.json`.
- `KOTHARO_PYTHON`, if you set it.
